Steven Mogul speaks at Maine Judicial Child Welfare Conference

On April 4, 2025, in the western mountains of Maine, just outside Bethel, Attorney Steven Mogul gave a presentation at the Maine Judicial Branch Child Welfare Conference, which took place at the Sunday River Resort. The annual Conference is for those involved in Maine State Child Protective matters. Although Attorney Mogul does not practice in the field of child protective services, he was asked to present at the conference to discuss the Collaborative Divorce Process and how its principles and processes might be implemented in the context of child protection services. Given that the theme of the Conference was dealing with high-conflict cases and personalities, it was thought that collaborative principles might be helpful.

Steven’s session was entitled, “Collaborative Approach to Child Protective Services – a respectful way to rehabilitate a family in crisis.” At least three judges and magistrate judges attended Steven’s session, with a good crowd of attorneys and social workers as well.

“My job was to describe how the Collaborative process and principles are implemented in divorce and parental rights cases, and then let the attendees talk about how that process and the attitude adjustment the Collaborative process calls for, might be useful in child protective proceedings.” According to Steven, the session was a lively one, with much participation from the attendees. “I hope that the attendees found the information useful in their high conflict practices,” said Steven, adding, “what a beautiful area for a conference!”
